Learning at fleet scale

When data from hundreds of motors or panels of the same type comes together, patterns emerge that no single device could derive from its own history. The leading signature of a particular failure mode is learned from assets that have already experienced it and applied to those that have not.

This does not replace the modelling at the edge — it feeds it. Each panel continues to be evaluated against its own reference signature; fleet data sharpens what that evaluation should be looking for.

Models trained in the cloud are redeployed to IQ Panels in ONNX format. How that loop is constructed is described on the Cortex Platform page.

What the software covers

Cortex Cloud is a software product, and its user is the maintenance and asset management team. The fleet view showing which assets stand out, the long-term health trend of each asset, the prioritisation and routing of alarms, and maintenance, health and safety and management reporting all live in this layer.

The line between edge and cloud

That line is drawn deliberately: alarm generation does not depend on the cloud. A communication outage stops neither risk scoring nor the relay outputs. Cortex Cloud is the layer for fleet management and foresight, not for the critical safety function.

Frequently asked questions

Does the system work without Cortex Cloud?

Yes. Risk scoring and alarm generation run at the edge on the IQ Panel and need no cloud connection. What is lost without Cortex Cloud is not the alarm, but fleet-scale comparison, long-term trend analysis, forecasting and centralised reporting.

Are Cortex Cloud and the Cortex Platform the same thing?

No. Cortex Platform is the name of the whole product family — the IQ Panel, the Sense probes, the communication modules and Cortex Cloud together. Cortex Cloud is that family's cloud software product.

How is data delivered to the cloud?

Through the communication module fitted into the IQ Panel's expansion slot: WiFi (CM-W100), cellular (CM-G200) or LoRaWAN (CM-L300). The module is chosen to match the site infrastructure and the telemetry resolution required. On LoRaWAN installations, duty-cycle limits mean derived data (risk score, alarm state, periodic summaries) is sent rather than raw telemetry.

Is data from an outage period lost?

No. The communication modules store outgoing telemetry in a local buffer during coverage loss and transmit it in order once the connection returns. No hole appears in the trend history — which matters for predictive maintenance models to work correctly.
